It listens for ball strikes
A padel ball off the racket is a sharp crack that rises and dies in a fraction of a second. The detector scans six frequency bands for that fingerprint and ignores footsteps, shouting, and the quieter thud of the ball off the glass.
Rallies become clips
Strikes that trade back and forth in padel rhythm get grouped into rallies, padded with a couple of seconds either side, and handed to you as clips you can play, save, or share.
How to film padel highlights that cut themselves.
Film through or over the back glass. A phone resting against the glass behind your side of the court sees all four players and — crucially for this tool — hears every strike cleanly. Court fences and viewing balconies work too.
Keep the original audio. Detection works entirely from sound: if the audio is muted, replaced with music, or recorded from far outside the cage, there's nothing to listen to. Add your music after cutting the highlights.
Indoor clubs are fine. The algorithm normalises against each recording's own noise floor, so buzzing lights, neighbouring courts and hall echo are tolerated — it was built to survive far worse, including rain hammering a metal roof.
Padel rallies are long — the walls keep the ball alive — but the gaps between them are longer: side switches, banter, picking balls out of the corner. A 90-minute social match usually contains well under twenty minutes of actual play.
Nobody rewatches that raw footage, and cutting it by hand means scrubbing through an hour and a half for the thirty rallies worth keeping. The detector finds them in seconds, on your device, and keeps the celebration after the winning smash in the clip.

Is my padel video uploaded to a server?
No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser using Web Audio — the video never leaves your device, nothing is stored, and there's no account or sign-up. Watch the network tab while it works: nothing goes out.
How does it detect the rallies?
From sound alone. Racket strikes are sharp, fast-decaying transients that stand out against the recording's own noise floor. The detector measures that contrast in six frequency bands, keeps only strikes that are loud for your recording, checks the back-and-forth rhythm is plausible padel, and groups them into rallies.
Does it cope with the glass walls?
Yes. The ball off the glass is much quieter and duller than the ball off a racket, so wall rebounds don't register as strikes — they just stay inside the clip as part of the rally, which is exactly where you want them.
Which video formats work?
Anything your browser can decode: MP4 and MOV straight off a phone are ideal, WebM works, and an audio-only file works too if you just want the timestamps.
How long can the video be?
Up to roughly 30–45 minutes is comfortable (hard limit: one hour or 2 GB) in the browser. For full matches, the Slice app runs the same detector natively on your phone — a 90-minute padel match analyses in about a minute, with no length limit.
