Privacy Policy

Introduction
Welcome to Slice. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, including:
- Account information (name, email, username, profile picture, date of birth, gender, country, dominant hand, preferred sport)
- Match data and statistics you choose to log (scores, opponents, location, date, notes, photos)
- Content you post, including comments, claps, and reactions
- Communications with other users (follow requests, comment threads)
- Device and usage data (device type, OS version, app version, crash logs, anonymous analytics events)
- Push notification tokens (only if you enable notifications)
Health and Fitness Data
Slice can optionally connect to Apple Health (iOS) and Health Connect (Android) to enrich the matches you log with workout data. This connection is entirely optional and only activated after you explicitly grant permission via the system permission dialog.
Health data types we access
With your permission, we read the following data types only for the time window of a workout that overlaps with a match you have logged or are about to log:
- Workout / Exercise sessions — used to detect when you played a racquet sport (tennis, padel, squash, badminton, table tennis, racquetball) so we can suggest logging it as a match.
- Heart rate (samples, average, maximum, minimum) — used to display your effort and heart-rate zones on the match.
- Active calories burned and total calories burned — used to display calories on the match.
- Distance — used to display the distance you covered during the match.
- Date of birth (read once from Apple Health if available) — used solely to calculate age-adjusted heart-rate zones; not stored separately.
We do not access steps, sleep, weight, height, body fat, blood pressure, blood glucose, oxygen saturation, body temperature, nutrition, hydration, reproductive or menstrual health, mental health, mindfulness, medications, or any other Apple Health / Health Connect data type.
How we use health data
Health data is used exclusively to:
- Detect and suggest workouts that match a racquet sport you played, so you can log them as a match in one tap.
- Display heart-rate, calories, and distance on the detail page of a match you have chosen to log.
Health data is never sold, never shared with advertisers, never used for advertising or marketing, never used to train machine-learning models, and never used for any purpose other than displaying it on the specific match it belongs to.
How health data is stored and shared
Health data attached to a logged match is stored on our servers (Hetzner, located in the European Union) alongside that match. If you set the match to public, the heart-rate, calories, and distance for that match are visible to other Slice users on that match's detail page. If your profile is private, the data is only visible to your approved followers. Health data is never shared with third parties other than the cloud-hosting providers required to operate the service.
Retention and deletion of health data
Health data is retained only for as long as the associated match exists. You can remove it at any time:
- Delete the match — removes all health data for that match from our servers immediately.
- Disconnect Health Connect / Apple Health — stops any future reads. Already-attached data on past matches remains until you delete those matches.
- Delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account, or by emailing hey@sliceapp.so) — removes all health data and all other account data within 30 days.
You can revoke health permissions at any time, independently of the app:
- Android: Settings → Apps → Health Connect → App permissions → Slice
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Slice
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our services
- Process and display your match history and statistics
- Connect you with other players
- Send you notifications about your account, matches, follow requests, and comments
- Respond to your comments and questions
- Detect abuse, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with:
- Other users (your public profile, public matches, comments, and reactions). If your profile is private, only your approved followers see your content.
- Service providers who assist in operating our app (cloud hosting at Hetzner in the EU, push-notification delivery, crash reporting, anonymous analytics).
- Law enforcement when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Slice, our users, or others.
Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the service and comply with our legal obligations:
- Account data (name, email, username, profile, preferences) — retained for as long as your account is active.
- Match data and content (matches, comments, claps, posts, photos) — retained for as long as your account exists, unless you delete the individual item earlier.
- Health data — retained only for the lifetime of the match it is attached to (see "Retention and deletion of health data" above).
- Device tokens and push tokens — retained while you have notifications enabled; deleted when you disable notifications or sign out.
- Crash logs and anonymous analytics — retained for up to 90 days for diagnostic purposes.
- Deleted-account residuals — when you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our production systems within 30 days. Encrypted backups are rotated and fully purged within an additional 60 days. Anonymized, aggregate statistics that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely.
- Legal-hold data — we may retain certain records longer where required by applicable law (e.g. tax, fraud prevention, or to comply with a legal request).
Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and isolated infrastructure in the European Union. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Slice is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information at any time through your account settings, or by contacting us. You can also withdraw consent for optional data (such as Health data) at any time through your device's system settings.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
